    A Modern ship consists of a host of complex and sophisticated machinery like large diesel engines, boilers, steam engines, steam turbines, gas turbines, alternators, propeller and shafts, hydraulic systems, pumps, crosses, winches, compressors, refrigeration & air-conditioning plants etc. The role of the MEM Technician is to perform the task of repairing and maintaining these machinery safely and efficiently which requires a high level of skill and expertise. We at BMA Trichy, are fully equipped to provide high standard of training to produce top class Engineers.

Career Prospects for MEMT
   After the complete the one year Marine Equipment Maintenance course and a one-Modular course successfully, the student is eligible, to be appointed as Junior Mechanical Technician on shipyard companies.

Marine Engine Fitter course

  Different ship's, like general cargo, tanker vessel, container, bulk career, tug boats,high speed boats, DG plants etc. The role of engine fitter is overhauling, repairing and refitment of marine engines as per the ISO standards.

  Marine Engine Fitter has a wide scope of Employability ranging from self-employment, contractual employment to Industrial jobs. On successful completion of this course, the candidates shall be gainfully employed in the industries for following occupations:

1. Assembler, Stationary Diesel/Petrol Engine Mechanic, Engine fitter, Engine Mechanic
2. Existence of any official document suggesting the comparability of the qualification.
3. However, passed out trainees are getting employment in many Gulf countries, European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore etc,,

Progression Pathway
Can join Apprenticeship programme in different types of industries

Trades Summery:

  • Plan and organize the work to make job as per specification applying different types of basic fitting operation and check for dimensional accuracy. [Basic fitting operation: marking, hack sawing, chipping, filing, drilling, Tapping]

  • Demonstrate different joining operations observing standard procedure. [Different joints – bolt joints, riveting, gas welding arc welding, brazing, lock nut, cotter split pin etc.]

  • Perform dismantling & assembling of multi-cylinder marine engine as per Maker's manual and check functionality.

  • Overhaul Oil pump, Filters, Radiator, Cooling system and check functionality.

  • Overhaul air compressor, turbo charger and perform Gas charging & leak Testing of engine refrigeration.

  • Check the cooling & lubrication system and conduct necessary maintenance as per requirement

  • Diagnosis engine faults Erect & Install Engines and ensure functionality.

  • Repair & maintain Fuel feed systems, fuel Injection pump.

  • Maintain shop floor tools & Equipments as per standard procedure.

  • Measure and test Electrical / Electronics circuits/ components and check performance.

  • Revision, Project work and Examination

Marine Electrical Maintenance Technician course

This course is designed to give adequate knowledge and skill to candidates to take on the responsibility as a repairing and overhauling of electrical and electronics device's in ships.
The course deals with initial familiarization with ship board systems, equipments and machineries involved in the operation of the vessels. The relevant electrical/electronic equipments, control and automation systems, will be dealt with in detail to enable the candidate nurture decision making for troubleshooting, rectification of defects.
The course makes the candidate aware of the risks involved at sea and importance of imbibing the safety culture.
